It seems like the perennial title contenders MUBS and St. Lawrence have picked up their winning rhythm as the FUFA beach soccer league continued over the weekend at Mutoola resort beach in Mukono. They both registered statement wins to send a warning to their rivals.
The league action provided its fair share of excitement as the teams put-up eye-catching performances on Sunday.
St. Lawrence maintained their perfect start to the season, showing no sign of declining in form and showing charisma in games against Grace Church and Kiringente to accumulate 15 points and move to the top of table after five matches.
Grace Church 4-7 St. Lawrence
Grace Church player challenging Baker Lukooya for the ball
The defending champions earned their first win of the day against Grace Church.
They struck the first blow through Sulaiman Ochero before Baker Lukooya doubled their advantage.
But Joshua Lubwama scored at the wrong end in the second period to reduce the margin for Grace Church who got a second when Roger Ayiko swept in the ball immediately after Lukooya had stretched St. Lawrence’s lead.
Brian Nkuubi appeared in the third period with a hat trick to relieve his side from pressure while Lukooya also completed his hat trick. Grace Church scored two more goals later through Steven Kitumba and Babu Mulani but it was already game over for them.
Kiringente BSC 1- 4 St. Lawrence
For the first time after a long while, St. Lawrence were seen uncomfortable on the pitch at the beginning of this game.
They looked nervous after Marvin Mugerwa’s opener for Kiringente but they re-organized, took control of the game and produced four goals – coming from Joshua Lubwama (2), Jonathan Kikonyogo and Baker Lukooya to walk away with all the three points.
MUBS 6-1 Wolves
MUBS have made their loss to Mutoola a distant memory after winning three games on the bounce. They defeated Wolves and Grace Church on Sunday to move to the fourth place with nine points.
Munir Saidi dazzled with a hat trick, Douglas Muganga and Swaibu Kakwaya saw the net once each, while their side was also a beneficiary of Farouk Kawuma’s own goal.
Wolves refused to sink without a reply and they indeed got their consolation through Albert Olwenyi.

St Lawrence come into the games knowing that they will march to the summit of the table if they are victorious against Grace Church and Kiringente given that leaders Jinja Lions and Mutoola BSC are not on the fixture this weekend.
They are the only perfect team so far with three wins in as many games, sitting third on the table with nine points, just three behind the pace setters who have played two games more.
Opponent goes bare knuckles on Baker Lukooya of St. Lawrence
Kiringente tally six points from four matches in the fourth place while Grace Church are ninth with one point.

Grace Church and Wolves are the only sides yet to win a game this campaign and they are separated by goal difference, ranking 9th and 10th respectively with one point each.
MS Sand Lions will complete the schedule of the fifth outing with a meeting with Wolves.
The fourth outing of the FUFA beach soccer league emphasized the apparent gulf in strength between defending champions St. Lawrence University and the other teams in the league.
Arriving at FUFA technical center in fifth place on a cold Sunday, St. Lawrence brought Mutoola’s unbeaten run to an end before they humbled Buganda Royal to shoot up to third on the table with nine points after three matches.
Jinja Lions responded well to their short comings last time with two important wins over Kampala Junior Team and Wolves to hit the top with 12 points, while Kiringente BSC beat KJT to record their second victory this season.

It was a routine win and an easy ride for St. Lawrence just when some people thought Buganda Royal would pose some resistance this time against the Davis Nnono side. Buganda Royal had lost the previous two meetings between the sides and the story remained the same here.

Baker Lukooya set St. Lawrence rolling with two goals in the first period although Ambrose Kigozi struck for Buganda Royal to reduce the deficit before it ended but it proved to be a mere consolation.

KJT however threatened a comeback when they scored the next three goals in the game through – Alvin Ssekiziyivu, Ashraf Mugumira and an own goal by Fredrick Ngalo but Onyango completed his brace in the third period to put the game beyond their reach.

In this match, Nicholas Mwere showed that he can be great source of goals for the Sand Kings. The towering forward scored six in the lopsided affair to take his goal tally to ten.
Arafat Wandera was also on target for Jinja Lions while Derrick Luyimbazi and Baptist Male scored for Wolves.

The league will resume on march 5, 2023 with five fixtures at Mutoola resort beach in Mukono.
The meeting of defending champions St. Lawrence University and leaders Mutoola BSC, as well as the former’s showdown with Buganda Royal are among the highlights as FUFA beach soccer league enters the fourth outing this Sunday at FUFA technical centre beach soccer arena in Njeru.
St. Lawrence BSC Vs Mutoola BSC
In-form Mutoola will get the fourth outing underway when they come against four-time champions St. Lawrence on Sunday morning.
Mutoola’s Sharif Apuuli has six goals in three matches
They have had a promising start to the season, winning all their opening four games against Grace Church, MUBS, Jinja Lions and MS Sand Lions to assume the summit of the table with 12 points.
But their perfect feat will now be checked by the unforgiving St. Lawrence who will be eager to collect as many points as they can, and as soon as possible to narrow the gap at the top.
Davis Nnono’s side is in fifth position and nine points behind Mutoola having played only one game this season.
St. Lawrence BSC Vs Buganda Royal
After losing their opening two games, pressure piled on Buganda Royal that compelled their experienced coach Tony Ssebagala to return to the touchline the previous outing. They won 5-1 against Kiringente to rise to sixth on the table.
They will be renewing their acquaintances with St. Lawrence later on Sunday.
Unstoppable:Baker Lukooya (in blue) of St Lawrence against Buganda Royal in the super four tourney
The sides’ past two meetings ended with Buganda Royal writhing after two heavy defeats; 9-5 in the league final last year and 10-7 in the UBSA super four beach soccer tournament in mid-January to eventual winners St. Lawrence BSC.
Kampala Junior Team (KJT) Vs Jinja Lions BSC
Debutants KJT have caught everyone by surprise, announcing themselves aloud on the big stage with two resounding wins in three matches to pick up six points, same as their opponents.
Jinja Lions will however want to make their 4-3 humbling by Mutoola last week a distant memory and they will be desperate to deliver the goods this time as the race for the play off positions gains momentum.
Wolves BSC Vs MUBS
It was a false start to the campaign for the two-time league champions – MUBS, losing 3-1 to Mutoola in their opener before beating KJT by the same score in their second match of the season. Coach Kato Adam Juma wishes to use the result as a springboard to relaunch their campaign going forward to restore their pride.
MUBS’ Douglas Muganga (in orange) in a league encounter last season
As for Wolves, their start to the season has not been good either. Following their 4-3 loss to KJT in their opening game was a three all draw against Grace Church. Meaning they have just one point to look at.
Fixtures that will follow will have KJT feature again, against the eighth placed Kiringente while Jinja Lions will also make a second appearance with Wolves in the last showpiece of the day.
Asubo Gafford WFC remained perfect as they won their second game in the FUFA women beach soccer league in as many games to pile pressure on early leaders Kampala junior team (KJT) ladies who were held to a two all draw by Gomba ladies on Sunday.
Asubo Gafford starting five against Nansana Ladies
Asubo Gafford are second on the table with six points, one behind KJT but the latter has featured in three matches.
In the lopsided contest, Fatumah Nakasumba and Madina Nakayi struck four and two goals respectively to give Rogers Nkugwa’s side an emphatic 6-0 clean victory over Nansana ladies at FUFA technical centre beach soccer arena.
Nakasumba’s tally is now at ten goals, four better off KJT’s youngster Leticia Nakyeyune in second on the scorers’ chart.

Resilient Gomba ladies held their nerves and they had to come from behind twice to earn their first point this season against the youthful KJT in the other game of the third outing.
Miriam Nakayiwa cancelled out Zainab Birungi’s opener for KJT before she stood to be counted again when she evened the game for Gomba with a late strike after Nakyeyune thought she had won it for her side.
Communication on when the league will resume shall be made in the due course.
Following a rest of about twelve days, the FUFA beach Soccer league is back this Sunday of February 12th for another pulsating action on match day three.
Current table standings
Ms Sand Lions entertain Kiringente BSC in a meeting of two hard fighting teams and MUBS will seek to get their season back on the rails when they face KIU at Mutoola resort beach in Mukono.
Kampala Junior Team (KJT) will play Grace Church in another seemingly interesting fixture.
Sixth placed Ms Sand Lions held to a 3-2 win at Buganda Royal last time out and will aim to build on that result to close the gap at the top given that early pace setters – Mutoola BSC and Jinja Lions are not in action.
Ms Sand Lions’s player leaves Baker Lukooya (down) in awe
Contrastingly, Kiringente were unlucky to lose 2-0 at Jinja Lions on match day two after putting up a good show with their aggressive approach and they may fancy this moment to start recording points on their account.
The fixture between KIU and MUBS promises a thriller as both teams will focus on earning their first points this season from the clash.
After the departure of Charles Ayeikho, coach Adam Kato Juma took over the reigns at MUBS but he couldn’t rescue his side from the 3-1 beating by Mutoola in his first game in charge, therefore, the two time league champions need to right the situation before it becomes unrepairable.

KIU however forfeited their match against Grace Church and they accordingly lost the game by 3-0 as per the rules and regulations of the competition.
Meanwhile, Grace Church will have to encounter a stern test this time against the energetic KJT who shockingly beat Wolves 4-3 on their league debut.
The FUFA beach soccer league 2022/23 continued with four fixtures played on match day two.

Action between Buganda Royal and Ms Sand Lions
For the entire show, Buganda Royal was playing catch up, reminiscent of their first defeat at Jinja Lions.
Paul Kato cancelled out Yusuf Joloba and Simon Kizito’s goals in the first and second period respectively but Joloba was there again for his team with the third goal in the third period to ensure Buganda Royal fell hard for the second time in as many games.

Nicholas Mwere (in blue) was a thorn in Kiringente’s foot

Wolves 3-4 Kampala Junior Team
Full of energy and grit, KJT stunned Wolves 4-3 in an entertaining affair for the neutrals.
Najib Muwoge’s hattrick and another strike from Staurt Kaffuluma was enough to win the game for KJT, while Ramadhan Ongen’s brace and a goal from Julius Sentamu remained a mere consolation for their side.
Meanwhile, Grace Church were a beneficiary of a walkover when KIU failed to honor their fixture.
Match day three will be played on February 12, 2023 at FUFA technical center beach soccer arena.

Rica Byaruhanga set the four time champions on the journey of victory with a cool finish before Sulaiman Ochero, Baker Lukooya, George Kaddu and new man Ronald Magwali confirmed the win for Davis Nnono’s side with a goal each.
Ms Sand Lions struck twice through Robert Kato and Abbey Kauma but their goals only remained a consolation.
Jinja Lions then produced an earsplitting roar when they convincingly beat Buganda Royal in the second match on the day to get their season off to a dream start.
